Testing a Car Spark Plug

Spark plugs are an important component in the system of a car. These connectors allow the smooth functioning of a car engine and run the compression function of fuel by an electric spark. Despite the spark plugs wear out gradually, the user must ensure that the cap is high quality, to ensure longevity in performance. A car user is advised to take your vehicle for regular engine service. Regular maintenance of the engine, the mechanic, the car detects any irregularities occur. The user of the car also recommends the plug after every two years.

Spark plugs are an important component in the system of a car. Before the user to replace worn caps, you should first check with the manufacturer. The manufacturer of the description, the exact specifications of the original spark plugs and car alternatives if the user does not find the original type. The test is usually done by a spark plug gauge. Other areas to check include, cables are attached, indicating the cuts, cracks, corrosion in the engine and all other damaged area of the engine. The mechanic also advised to not rely on the vehicle while the engine is running. The owner / mechanic can then begin to test the spark plug drive functionality with the removal of each plug to car engine. With the ratchet, the user is encouraged to rotate the plug counterclockwise clockwise. This occurs while the engine is running. If the engine slows down, then the vehicle owner should know that the plugs are in good condition.

The next step is to remove the spark plug wire. This happens after the engine has cooled. The owner of the vehicle can be tested to see if the plug is working. He can do this by doing the spark plug wire to a metal surface. The plug is a spark issue. Plug should be cleaned regularly so as not to hinder your performance. Check the owner / auto mechanics to make sure that the spark plug works well and then do another test on it.

Test Ignition Coils

Test Preparation ignition coil first thing I do is always take the necessary precautions. Proceed when working near or around a running engine with great caution. If you want long hair, be careful, you do not have contact with any part of your car and the engine’s moving parts.

Test the ignition of your car is one of the tasks to run a lot easier. It should be noted that the ignition produces a large amount of power. Proceed with caution.

When the coil was removed from the vehicle, and you need more data on the spool, you can create a so-called test. Place the test by the spark plug wires of the plug. Then remove the spark plug to a socket. Now you want to connect the spark plug back into the ignition.

Test the ignition coil: The test: Take a pair of pliers isolated. Keep the ignition wires with insulated pliers. Want a place that is accessible and bright metal.

Grasp the plug wire pliers with insulated grounding contact point with the thread of the plug is chosen. Take a bit like a starter of your car and watch for the spark plugs. You are a bright blue sparks us to jump over the gap – current. If there is that spark blue, even in broad daylight, is the spark plug works very well.

Test the ignition: there are a number of other test-meter tests you can run to the ignition coil. However, if you exact information about the status of the ignition coil, then you should perform a test meter. It is considered the only true test of a coil.

Let us go into the ignition coil for a moment. The coil comprises two coil wire, the upper right of each other. We refer to this as the coil bobbin. There is a primary coil, the first wire and a secondary coil, the second wire. The primary coil collects current to generate the spark. Sometimes an ignition coil fails completely, which means that absolutely no spark whatsoever.

A multimeter with the test coil is switched off completely carried out. This meter offers numbers to determine the condition of the coil – a lot more reliable than a visual assessment. If you do not know what they please consult your vehicle serviced or repaired manual that information.

The proof of the windings

To test the primary winding of the coil:

As already mentioned, the primary of the ignition coil collects this first current or battery voltage of the car battery. Do you have the specifications of the coil resistance? You’ll need them before examining the counter. If you do not take one moment to the maintenance or repair manual to find the information.

Once you have found strength specifications, look for the digital multimeter. If you have a traditional round drum, you need the device and insert the cable into the small contributions outside of the coil. If you closed one of the new units, then the wires are labeled or marked to be on pole coil. If the counts in the ranking according to the specifications of the Manual, the primary coil is functioning well and can go to check the secondary. If you find that reading a little out of line, then you should use the coil.

To test the secondary winding of the ignition coil: The secondary winding of the ignition coil sends the spark to your dealer and then to the spark plugs. A weak spark, spark is by no means an indication that the coil must be replaced.

To test the secondary coil of the ignition coil, connect the probes to the outer pole 12V and the Center for the ignition coil. If the coil is in the area, everything is good. When the reading was a little fall outside the specified range, then you should use the coil. Note that in an ignition coil will not make your engine run rough and cause other problems.

Ignition Systems

Spark Plugs with multiple electrodes, made all the electrodes to the spark additional finish and wrapped in my opinion, does exactly the opposite of the statements. The ideal complement to current or mileage would be a side or surface gap, because the spark is almost exclusively a shielded electrode. Sure that the energy difference is minimal, or not, but some require a modified car and opened the side plug-indicated because of possible interference with the dome of high compression pistons. Have known almost all the plugs are to humans.

Material it is expensive, platinum or iridium plugs worth the money? Now, if the plug change difficult than 5 + hours, then it may make sense, even if a plug change a great job is done. How to tell if a spark plug is still in good shape. This leads into the sockets, the electrodes until the edges are rounded to the electrode and the plug still fires as well.

Finally, discuss the special ignition systems and aftermarket MSD box or other. MSD multi spark discharge means, and frankly, sparks, only multi up to 3000 RPM, where it is less necessary, but the reality is that multiple chips did not work at high speeds, just long enough not to create more than one spark. In my opinion, multiple sparks are a type of waste, because if you look at the air-fuel mixture is burned must. I do not think many of them a more complete combustion spark, but these fields produce a much hotter spark and that’s good for the ignition, but can cause excessive wear on parts such as cap, rotor and plugs cause, probably not what you want in the drivers every day. There are good parts and coil modules are available that allow it to operate above 7000 RPM without problems, but the physical size of the device may cause interference in some applications.

Plug wires? Most computer-controlled vehicles require ignition-resistant cables. As long as your car can not run computer-controlled solid wires, but be prepared for the possibility of interference with the radio.

So that’s my opinion on the ignition system. In theory, the best performance and economy, the normal (copper), the combination of a side is open and ignition box aftermarket, but chances are you will not feel or see any difference in mileage or performance, when a heavily modified vehicle or its factory parts are in poor condition. In short, keep your factory ignition parts in good condition and you give everything you can expect.
